What’s Being Proposed in Salem

A plan to bring one of the most recognizable names in paranormal history to downtown Salem is making its way through the city’s approval process.

Haunted Warren Museum, LLC has proposed operating a curated indoor museum experience at 259 Essex St. in Salem — the same downtown address currently home to Haunt Blackcraft. Documents from a Salem City Council meeting on March 12, 2026 describe the concept as a mixed-media experience with 14 exhibit spaces featuring paranormal artifacts from around the world.

The proposed draw? Items from the collection of the late Ed and Lorraine Warren — the Connecticut-based demonologists whose investigations inspired The Conjuring film franchise — potentially including the Annabelle doll, one of the most famous alleged paranormal artifacts in the world.

What Has Actually Been Approved So Far

This is an important distinction, and one that has been muddied in some early coverage.

As of April 3, 2026, the Haunted Warren Museum proposal has not been approved. The March 12 council session brought the plan forward, and a follow-up session on March 17 revealed significant concerns from city councilors and neighboring residents — particularly around the proposed 2 a.m. closing time.

The hearing was continued to give more community members and stakeholders time to weigh in. The council has not yet voted on the proposal.

What is confirmed is that an application exists, a location has been identified, and the city is actively reviewing it. Everything beyond that — the opening date, final exhibit list, and whether Annabelle herself would actually be on display — remains unconfirmed.

The Debate Over Hours and Neighborhood Impact

The proposed operating schedule — 10 a.m. to 2 a.m., every day of the year — drew the most concern from councilors during the March 17 session.

The museum would be located near Barton Square, a residential neighborhood adjacent to the busy Essex Street commercial district. Councilors weighing the late-night closing time cited potential impacts on neighbors who live nearby, particularly on weeknights.

The average guest duration is projected at 90 minutes during earlier hours and two hours for later visits. The proposal includes no food or alcohol service, which distinguishes it from some of the nightlife establishments that have previously prompted similar discussions in Salem.

The Warren Collection and the Salem Connection

Ed Warren died in 2006. Lorraine Warren passed in 2019, after which the family’s Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut closed. In August 2025, comedian Matt Rife and paranormal content creator Elton Castee announced they had purchased the Monroe property and assumed a five-year guardianship over the collection.

The Haunted Warren Museum proposal in Salem appears to be a separate but related venture — a public-facing museum designed to display selected items from the Warren paranormal archive in a purpose-built exhibit space. The Warren Occult Museum itself has historically been a private, appointment-based experience; the Salem proposal would create a ticketed walk-through museum format.

Salem is an obvious fit. The city already draws hundreds of thousands of visitors annually due to its connection to the 1692 witch trials, and its paranormal and occult tourism economy is well established. A museum built around the Warren collection would represent a significant new draw, particularly during the city’s peak tourism months.

What Comes Next

The Salem City Council must still vote on the application, and specifically on the request for extended business hours. If the hours question cannot be resolved to the council’s satisfaction, the applicant may need to revise the proposal before it can move forward.

There is no confirmed opening date for the Haunted Warren Museum in Salem. tonightinlynn.com will continue to follow developments as the city’s review process moves forward.

For North Shore residents who want to track the proposal, Salem City Council agendas and meeting minutes are published on the City of Salem’s official website.

Why It Matters

Salem’s cultural and tourism landscape has a direct ripple effect on the North Shore, including Lynn. New attractions in Salem generate regional interest, bring visitors to the area, and create conversations about the paranormal legacy that runs through New England’s history.

Whether or not you believe in haunted dolls, the Haunted Warren Museum proposal is a serious business application working through a real municipal process — and the outcome will shape what downtown Salem looks like for years to come.

Q: Is the Haunted Warren Museum in Salem open yet?

No. As of April 3, 2026, the Haunted Warren Museum proposal at 259 Essex St. in Salem is still under review by the Salem City Council. No approval or opening date has been confirmed.

Q: Will the Annabelle doll actually be displayed at the Salem museum?

This has not been confirmed. The proposal describes 14 exhibit spaces featuring paranormal artifacts from the Warren collection, but the specific items on display — including whether Annabelle would be among them — have not been officially verified as part of the public application.

Q: Where can I follow updates on the Haunted Warren Museum Salem proposal?

The City of Salem publishes City Council meeting agendas and minutes at salemma.gov. Local coverage has been reported by the Salem News (salemnews.com) and CT Insider. tonightinlynn.com will also continue to track the story as a North Shore news item.

A Parade Eight Years in the Making

Lynn, MA is getting its parade back.

The 2026 North Shore Veterans & First Responders Parade Committee of the Lynn Veterans Council is organizing the return of a beloved community tradition, with the event officially set for Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 1 p.m. A rain date of September 27 has also been established.

The last parade was held in 2018. COVID-19 brought the annual event to a halt, and the years since have seen the Lynn Veterans Council quietly working to rebuild the momentum needed to bring it back at scale.

This year, they’re going big.

Why 2026 Is the Right Year

Three major milestones converge on this event.

The parade will honor the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks and the Global War on Terror. It will also celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States. And it will pay tribute to the veterans, firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and first responders who serve the North Shore every single day.

“From our firefighters, our police, our ambulance drivers, the first responders — we have that because of those people,” said Ward 1 City Councilor Peter Meaney, who serves as treasurer for the parade committee. “We want to give back on this. We want to put on the best parade the North Shore has ever seen.”

The Route and What to Expect

The parade will begin at North Shore Community College and proceed down Washington Street, turning onto Market Street and continuing through North Common Street, Franklin Street, Boston Street, and Stetson Street before finishing at the Manning Field parking lot.

Along the route, spectators can expect a lineup of military and civic vehicles, including a 40-ton World War II Sherman Tank, vehicles from the National Guard, and equipment from Lynn’s fire and police departments. The Greater Boston Bagpipe and Drum Corps will lead the procession.

Committee member and former Parade Grand Marshal David J. Solimine Sr. is slated to participate with his 1878 horse-drawn hearse — a stunning piece of history that has appeared in previous Lynn parades.

Family-Friendly and Community-Centered

The parade is designed to be an all-ages experience. Children will have the opportunity to see military and emergency vehicles up close at Manning Field after the march. Organizers emphasize that this event is about the entire community, not just veterans.

“It’s for the city of Lynn, and the whole North Shore,” said Lynn Veterans Council President Wayne Johnson. “We want to celebrate everybody.”

How You Can Support the Parade

The Lynn Veterans Council is entirely self-funded on this effort — no public dollars are involved. The committee estimates it needs approximately $100,000 to produce the event properly, accounting for the significant cost increases since 2018. Marching bands that cost around $1,100 in 2018, for example, now run closer to $2,600.

Donations of any amount are welcome. Donors of $1,000 or more will receive a certificate of recognition and two reserved seats in the review stand.

To donate, make a check payable to Lynn Veterans’ Council (for the 2026 parade) and mail it to:

Lynn Veterans’ Council, P.O. Box 8271, 245 Maple Street, Lynn, MA

For more information or to get involved, contact Council President Wayne Johnson at (781) 462-8888 or email [email protected].

Why It Matters

This parade represents more than a civic ceremony. It marks Lynn’s reemergence as a city that shows up for its heroes. After years of setbacks — a pandemic, rising costs, and organizational rebuilding — the Lynn Veterans Council has rallied elected officials, local businesses, and community members around a single day of recognition.

With three historic anniversaries colliding in 2026, September 20 in Lynn will be a day worth marking on your calendar now.

If you’re looking for things to do in Lynn MA this weekend, you’re in the right place.

Lynn is sitting on one of the best waterfronts on the entire North Shore, a growing food and arts scene, historic landmarks, and more things to do on any given weekend than most people realize. You just have to know where to look.

Here’s your guide to the best things to do in Lynn, MA this weekend.

1. WALK LYNN SHORE DRIVE

If you haven’t walked Lynn Shore Drive lately, you’re missing out. This mile-long oceanfront esplanade stretches along Nahant Bay with open Atlantic views, a sweeping Boston skyline in the distance, and a seawall path that’s perfect for a morning walk, a sunset run, or just sitting and breathing for a minute.

Bring coffee. Bring your dog. Bring someone you’ve been meaning to catch up with.

It’s free, it’s beautiful, and it’s right here.

2. GRAB BREAKFAST AT ONE MIGHTY MILL

Before you do anything else on a Saturday morning, stop at One Mighty Mill on Exchange Street in downtown Lynn.

This isn’t your average bagel shop. They mill their own flour — on-site, from whole grains — and bake everything fresh daily. The everything bagel with scallion cream cheese is the move. Get there early because they sell out.

It’s the kind of place that makes you proud this city is your city.

3. EXPLORE LYNN WOODS

Lynn Woods is one of the largest municipal parks in the entire United States — over 2,200 acres of trails, ponds, and old-growth forest right inside the city limits.

Most people who don’t live in Lynn have never heard of it. That’s wild.

Bring the family, bring the dog, or go solo. The reservoir trail is gorgeous any time of year. If you want to earn your views, hike up to Burrill Hill and take in the Boston skyline from the stone fire tower.

4. CATCH A SHOW AT LYNN MEMORIAL AUDITORIUM

Lynn Memorial Auditorium on Union Street has hosted some of the biggest names in music history — and it continues to bring real talent to the North Shore.

Check the calendar before your weekend. Whether it’s a classic rock tribute, a comedian, or a local artist putting on a show, the Auditorium is one of those venues that punches way above its weight.

For upcoming shows, check our Lynn events calendar.

5. VISIT THE LYNN MUSEUM & HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Tucked at 590 Washington Street, the Lynn Museum is genuinely one of the most underrated spots in the city.

The collection covers everything from Lynn’s industrial shoe-manufacturing era (at one point, Lynn made more shoes than anywhere in the world) to its role in abolitionism and the labor movement. The building itself — a converted 19th-century bank — is worth seeing.

Admission is free. There’s really no excuse not to go.

6. DISCOVER THE MURALS OF DOWNTOWN LYNN

Downtown Lynn has quietly become an outdoor art gallery.

In the past few years, massive murals have appeared across Central Square and the surrounding blocks — vibrant, community-driven art that tells the real story of who lives here and what this city is becoming.

Take a slow walk through downtown and count them. You’ll be surprised how many there are.

7. EAT AT NIGHTSHADE NOODLE BAR

Nightshade Noodle Bar on Market Street is a Michelin-recognized restaurant. In Lynn.

Chef Rachel Miller’s French and Vietnamese-inspired tasting menu has earned national attention, multiple James Beard Award nominations, and a reputation as one of the most exciting dining experiences on the North Shore. Book ahead — it fills up fast.

If you haven’t been yet, this weekend is the weekend.

8. HIT THE BEACH AT RED ROCK PARK

Red Rock Park on the Nahant side of Lynn is one of those spots that feels like a secret even though it’s right there.

The rocky shoreline, tide pools, and open ocean views make it perfect for a low-key afternoon. Bring lunch, find a flat rock overlooking the water, and just sit.

9. BROWSE BOBBY’S OF BOSTON

Bobby’s of Boston on Market Street has been doing vintage clothing for over 50 years — multiple floors of military jackets, collegiate sweaters, denim, and accessories that you genuinely cannot find anywhere else.

It’s the kind of place where you go in for one thing and leave with five. A Lynn institution.

10. TRY A PINT AT BENT WATER BREWING

Finish your weekend at Bent Water Brewing at 180 Commercial Street.

Local craft beer, a relaxed taproom vibe, and a rotating selection of small-batch brews that hold their own against anything you’d find in the city. It’s the perfect end to a day in Lynn.

Introduction: Our Two-Mile Slice of Heaven

When the humidity hits in July, there is only one place a “Lynner” wants to be: Lynn Shore Drive. Stretching from the Swampscott line all the way to the Nahant rotary, this coastal promenade is the crown jewel of the North Shore. It’s where we go to clear our heads, train for 5Ks, and watch the Atlantic Ocean crash against the seawall during a Nor’easter.

If you’re looking for a beach day “near me” that offers both the grit of the city and the serenity of the sea, this is the place. Here is everything you need to know about Lynn Shore Drive and Nahant Beach.

Walking the Promenade

The sidewalk along Lynn Shore Drive is roughly two miles of unobstructed ocean views. On any given morning, you’ll find locals walking dogs, pushing strollers, and catching up on neighborhood gossip.

Red Rock Park: This is the heart of the drive. It’s a grassy park overlooking the ocean that hosts free concerts in the summer. It’s also the best spot in the city to watch a moonrise over the water.

Nahant Beach: The Peninsula Escape

Once you cross the rotary, you’re on the “causeway” leading to Nahant. To your right is Long Beach, a massive stretch of sandy shoreline managed by the DCR.

Surfing: Believe it or not, Nahant is a hub for North Shore surfers. When the wind is right, the waves here are perfect for longboarding.

The Tide Pools: At low tide, the rocky areas near the bathhouse are a playground for kids looking for crabs and sea glass.

Where to Eat with a View

You can’t visit the Lynn waterfront without getting a bite to eat.

Tides Restaurant & Pub: Located right on the beach, it’s a Lynn institution. Their outdoor deck is the premier spot for a cold beer and a fried clam plate.

Rossetti Restaurant (Lynn Shore Drive): If you want something a bit more upscale, Rossetti offers incredible Italian cuisine with a view of the water. Their cocktails are some of the best in the city.

Local Insight: Parking Survival Guide

Parking can be tough on hot weekends.

The DCR Lot: There is a large paid lot at Nahant Beach. If you’re a Massachusetts resident, make sure your plates are up to date for the resident discount.

Side Streets: Be careful parking on the side streets in Lynn near the water; many are resident-only, and the parking enforcement is legendary.

Conclusion

We often take for granted that we have world-class ocean views just steps from our downtown. Whether you’re here for a sunrise run or a sunset dinner, Lynn Shore Drive is the heartbeat of our coastal community.

FAQ Section

Is Nahant Beach dog-friendly? Dogs are allowed on the beach during the off-season (October to April), but are generally restricted during the summer months.

Can you walk from Lynn to Nahant? Yes! The sidewalk along the causeway is safe, paved, and offers great views of both the ocean and the Lynn harbor.

What is the best time to visit? Sunrise is magical, but 6:00 PM on a Tuesday during a Red Rock concert is the peak Lynn experience.

This month, the Lynn Museum & Arts Center becomes the final stop for a powerful multimedia tour: “Bay State Without Beaches.” Curated by Save the Harbor/Save the Bay, this exhibit isn’t just an art show—it’s an urgent conversation about the future of Lynn’s shoreline. Through personal interviews, portraits, and multimedia installations, the exhibit explores how rising sea levels and intensifying storms are literally reshaping the North Shore.

The project grew out of community meetings where residents voiced concerns about beach maintenance and the barriers to coastal access. In Lynn, where the waterfront is our backyard, these aren’t abstract concepts. The exhibit highlights local stories of resilience and the community’s call for coastal “mandates,” such as wetland restoration and circular product designs to strengthen our natural defenses.

For residents, this is a chance to see our city’s challenges reflected through the lens of world-class art. The show will remain on view for two months, providing a space for both policy-makers and neighbors to discuss how we can protect the Lynn Shore Drive we love for the generations to come.

In 2026, fitness in Lynn has moved beyond the fluorescent lights of the treadmill. While we are lucky to have world-class facilities like the Demakes Family YMCA, a new “Wellness Circuit” has emerged—one that utilizes our city’s unique, rugged geography to turn the entire North Shore into your personal training ground.

This circuit isn’t just about burning calories; it’s about mental clarity and connecting with the city’s natural beauty. Here is how to conquer the Lynn Wellness Circuit this season.

The Vertical Challenge: High Rock Tower Stairs

Start your morning at High Rock Park. For those looking to build lower-body strength and cardiovascular endurance, the granite stairs leading up to the 1905 stone tower are unrivaled.

A popular local workout involves “Tower Repeats”—sprinting the incline, recovering at the summit while taking in the 170-foot elevation views of the Atlantic and the Boston skyline, and repeating. It’s an interval training session with a view that no high-end gym can replicate.

The “Flat and Fast” Interval: Lynn Shore Drive

Once you’ve tackled the hills, head to Lynn Shore Drive. This two-mile promenade is the city’s premier destination for “flat and fast” training.

The salt air isn’t just refreshing; it’s a natural motivator. In 2026, the promenade is a hub for the “Lynn Run Club,” which meets near Red Rock Park. The paved path is ideal for long-distance steady-state cardio or timed mile repeats. On a clear day, the rhythm of the waves provides the perfect natural soundtrack for a moving meditation.

The Technical Finish: Lynn Woods Mountain Biking & Trail Running

For the final leg of the circuit, enter Lynn Woods Reservation. This is where you test your agility. Lynn Woods is internationally recognized by mountain bikers for its “technical and ferocious” terrain, featuring rock gardens, rollers, and steep ledge riding.

If you’re on foot, the Stone Tower Loop or the technical singletracks near Dungeon Rock offer a full-body workout that requires constant focus and core stability. The uneven roots and boulders force your stabilizer muscles to work in ways a flat sidewalk never could.

Community Wellness: Pop-Up Classes

To round out your routine, look for the 2026 “Living Well at Home” and park-based programs. The City of Lynn often hosts free outdoor yoga and Zumba sessions at Goldfish Pond or on the Lynn Common during the spring and summer months. These sessions offer a chance to “stretch it out” and connect with fellow residents in a supportive, low-pressure environment.

By combining the vertical intensity of High Rock, the endurance of the Shore Drive, and the technical challenge of the Woods, you aren’t just getting fit—you’re experiencing the very best of what Lynn has to offer.

Lynn Woods isn’t just a park; it’s the second-largest municipal park in the United States, offering a wild escape just minutes from the urban center. Spanning over 2,200 acres, it remains a crown jewel for North Shore hikers, mountain bikers, and nature lovers.

In 2026, the trails are more pristine than ever. Start your journey at the Stone Tower, a historic landmark where you can catch a glimpse of the Boston skyline on a clear day. For those looking for a challenge, the Stone Tower Half Marathon (scheduled for June 21, 2026) showcases the rugged singletrack and carriage roads that make this reservation a premier trail-running destination.

If you prefer a bit of mystery, head to Dungeon Rock, a site steeped in local pirate lore. For panoramic views, the Weetamoo Cliff loop offers rocky terrain and rewarding vistas of the surrounding canopy. Whether you’re navigating the Penny Brook trails or taking a quiet walk near Walden Pond, Lynn Woods remains the city’s essential “backyard wilderness.”

There is a phrase that comes up repeatedly in conversations about Lynn’s economic trajectory: Gateway City. Designated as one of 26 such cities in Massachusetts, Lynn is defined by the state as a midsize urban center that anchors its regional economy while facing persistent challenges in household income and educational attainment. It is not always a flattering label, but city officials and economic development professionals have increasingly found ways to turn it into an asset.

Located less than four miles from downtown Boston, Lynn offers something that the surrounding suburbs and the city itself cannot always provide: affordability. Commercial rents in Lynn’s downtown and emerging waterfront districts remain substantially lower than comparable spaces in Cambridge, Somerville, or Boston proper, making the city an increasingly attractive option for small business owners, creative entrepreneurs, and light industrial tenants who need proximity to the metro area without the metro area price tag.

The Economic Development and Industrial Corporation of Lynn (EDIC) has been the city’s primary engine for business attraction and retention for more than four decades. Its mandate is to transform the waterfront and downtown district into what it describes as ‘bustling, pedestrian-friendly destinations’ — a vision that has moved from aspiration to active construction in recent years. The EDIC provides financing to businesses operating within Lynn’s commercial districts, helps connect entrepreneurs with city and state resources, and works to recruit new tenants to high-potential spaces like the former J.B. Blood Building.

The North Shore Latino Business Association and organizations like EforAll Lynn and its Spanish-language counterpart EparaTodos Lynn have become important nodes in the city’s business support ecosystem. Given that Lynn’s business community is significantly shaped by immigrant entrepreneurs — a walk through downtown reveals storefronts in Spanish, Portuguese, Khmer, and several other languages — these organizations play a practical role in making resources accessible to business owners who might otherwise navigate city and state systems alone.

Lynn’s transportation infrastructure is a meaningful economic asset. The Lynn Commuter Rail station on the MBTA’s Newburyport/Rockport Line connects the city to North Station in Boston in roughly 30 minutes, making it viable for residents to live in Lynn and work in the city — or for businesses in Lynn to draw employees from across the region. Bus connections through the MBTA network extend that reach further.

The healthcare sector also anchors a portion of Lynn’s employment base. Lynn Community Health Center, which has seen expansion in recent years, serves as both a healthcare provider and a significant employer in a city where access to primary care has historically been uneven. Investment in the health center reflects a broader recognition that workforce health and community wellbeing are inseparable from economic development.

Looking ahead, the question for Lynn is not whether growth is coming — it clearly is — but whether the city can manage that growth in a way that preserves what makes it distinctive. The South Harbor Implementation Plan, which the city has been developing with extensive community input, reflects an attempt to answer that question intentionally rather than reactively. With a new comprehensive master plan in place, an active redevelopment pipeline, and a business community that spans dozens of nationalities and industries, Lynn enters 2026 with more economic momentum than it has seen in a generation.

The old rhyme that gave Lynn a dismissive reputation belongs to another era. The city being built today — on its waterfront, in its cultural district, and through its community organizations — is writing a new story.

Ask someone who has never been to Lynn what they know about it, and you are likely to get a raised eyebrow or a vague reference to an old rhyme. Ask someone who lives there, and you will get something altogether different: a genuine enthusiasm for the city’s parks, its food, its waterfront, and its surprising depth of history. Lynn has long been underrated as a destination, but that reputation is increasingly at odds with reality — and a growing number of visitors are beginning to notice.

Lynn Woods Reservation

Start here. Lynn Woods Reservation is the crown jewel of the city’s outdoor offerings and one of the most impressive municipal parks anywhere in the United States. At more than 2,200 acres, it is the second largest municipal park in the country, and it sits largely hidden from view — tucked between the suburban sprawl of Route 1 and the dense neighborhoods of central Lynn, accessible from Pennybrook Road.

The reservation was established in 1881 and encompasses over 30 miles of marked trails suitable for hiking, running, mountain biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. Three active reservoirs provide drinking water to the city and offer serene, pond-like scenery throughout the woods. For mountain bikers, the rugged terrain is considered among the best in the Boston area. Rock climbers will find nearly a thousand documented bouldering routes scattered across the reservation’s granite outcroppings.

No visit to Lynn Woods is complete without a stop at Dungeon Rock, a cave entered through a small door set into a hillside. The cave descends roughly 150 feet before the ceiling becomes too low to stand — and according to local legend, a pirate named Thomas Veale hid his treasure inside it in the early 1700s. In 1852, a spiritualist named Hiram Marble became convinced that the pirate’s ghost was communicating with him and began digging deeper into the rock in search of the fortune. He never found it, but the tunnel he excavated is open to the public and remains one of the more genuinely eccentric historical sites in Massachusetts.

Stone Tower, perched atop Burrill Hill — the highest point in the reservation at around 272 feet — was built in 1936 by the Works Progress Administration as a fire observation tower. Refurbished in 2010, it offers sweeping views of the Lynn skyline, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Boston skyline to the southwest. It even makes a cameo in the video game Fallout 4, which is set in a post-apocalyptic version of the Boston area.

Lynn Shore Reservation and King’s Beach

Lynn’s eastern edge runs along Nahant Bay, and the Lynn Shore Reservation stretches along this coastline with walking paths, open lawns, and views that on a clear day extend well out to sea. King’s Beach, at the southern end of the shore, connects Lynn to Swampscott and offers a wide, sandy strand popular with local families. The walk from Swampscott to Nahant along the waterfront is a leisurely and scenic route well worth the effort.

High Rock Park and Tower

Perched in the Highlands neighborhood of Lynn, High Rock Park was designed in 1907 by the Olmsted Brothers — the same firm responsible for some of the most celebrated landscapes in American history. The park’s principal feature is High Rock Tower, an 85-foot Romanesque Revival stone structure completed in 1904. From the top, visitors get a commanding panoramic view of the surrounding North Shore, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Boston skyline. The site has a history stretching back to the 1600s, when it served as a gathering place for the Pawtucket people and the headquarters of their chief, Nanapashemet.

Located in the heart of the Downtown Lynn Cultural District on Washington Street, the Lynn Museum & Arts Center has been preserving the city’s history since 1897. The museum holds a collection of nearly 10,000 objects chronicling Lynn’s evolution from a colonial settlement to one of the world’s largest shoe manufacturing centers at the turn of the twentieth century. Changing exhibitions explore everything from the city’s industrial past to the contributions of its immigrant communities to contemporary local artists. The museum is free on Wednesdays and is open Thursday through Saturday during regular hours.

Central Square and the surrounding downtown blocks offer more than 20 international restaurants, public art installations, galleries, and independent shops. The area has been designated a Cultural District by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and it reflects the rich diversity of the city’s population in a way that few places in the region can match. The Grand Army of the Republic Hall on Andrew Street — one of the last functioning GAR halls in the country and the last in Massachusetts — houses six rooms of Civil War and Revolutionary War memorabilia and is open to history enthusiasts by appointment.
