Lynn’s oceanfront runs along Nahant Bay from the Swampscott line to the Nahant rotary: King’s Beach, Red Rock Park and Lynn Beach, all on Lynn Shore Drive. Here is where each one is, how parking works, and what to know before you swim.

Where to find the beaches and parks

King’s Beach, Red Rock Park and Lynn Beach sit on Lynn Shore Drive beside Nahant Bay as part of the Lynn Shore Reservation managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).

At the end of Lynn Shore Drive, the causeway leads to Nahant Beach, one of the North Shore’s busiest summer beaches.

Parking and getting there

Parking is mostly on the street along Lynn Shore Drive. Some state lots in the reservation use mobile payment through the YODEL app.

Swimming and water-quality testing

Massachusetts tests public beaches for bacteria during the swim season and posts results on the Interactive Beach Water Quality Dashboard on Mass.gov.

King’s Beach has long had some of the worst water quality in the area, the city says. The city posts sampling information and runs a King’s Beach steering committee.

What officials are doing about King’s Beach

The Lynn Water & Sewer Commission and the city say DCR and local boards do routine sampling at King’s Beach, and the city is running an illicit discharge detection and elimination (IDDE) program to cut the pollution reaching the King’s Beach outfall.

Lifeguards

DCR’s waterfront-services table for 2026 lists Lynn Beach (within the Lynn Shore Reservation) as an unguarded coastal beach and shows seasonal opening and closing dates for some state-managed locations.

If you need to know whether lifeguards are on duty the day you visit, check DCR advisories and the city’s notices before you go.

Lynn Heritage State Park waterfront and nearby services

Lynn Heritage State Park’s Waterfront Park at 590 Washington Street includes a boardwalk, benches and a fishing pier and serves as a waterfront gateway near downtown Lynn.

The state has invested in Waterfront Park improvements in recent years. The Lynn Museum & Arts Center operates in the former Heritage State Park visitor center at the same address, with local history exhibits and programs.

For waterfront events and other activities, check the city events calendar and local notices; DCR and the city post public-event information when dates are set.

Before you go

Check the state’s beach water quality dashboard on the day you plan to swim, look for advisories about King’s Beach, and check the Lynn weather forecast.

Plan for on-street parking along Lynn Shore Drive and the possibility of state-park lots that use mobile payment; confirm parking fees for any private or downtown lots independently.

For a shorter waterfront walk or a pier view near downtown, Waterfront Park at Lynn Heritage State Park connects to the Harbor Walk and sits close to downtown.
