The Lynn Public Library is at 5 North Common St., and it stays open into the evening on weekdays: from September to mid-June the main library is open 9 AM to 9 PM Monday through Thursday and 9 AM to 5 PM Friday and Saturday, and it’s closed Sundays.

Below are the library’s phone number, hours (children’s hours differ), the steps to get a card, and the services people commonly use — from museum passes and Teen Tech Space to e-books, Kanopy and hotspots.

Location, hours and contact

The main library is at 5 North Common St., Lynn, MA 01902. The public phone number is 781-595-0567.

Regular fall/winter hours for the Main Library are Monday–Thursday 9:00 AM–9:00 PM, Friday & Saturday 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, and Sunday closed. The Children’s Department keeps longer weekday evenings on Tuesday and Thursday: its hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday 9:00 AM–5:00 PM and Tuesday & Thursday 9:00 AM–9:00 PM. The library is closed on legal holidays, including Veterans Day, closes at noon on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, and closes at noon the day before Thanksgiving and stays closed through that Friday. Summer hours (mid-June through August) are shorter, so check the library’s Hours page before a summer visit.

Getting a library card

You can register for a Lynn library card in person by bringing ID that shows your name and current address, such as a driver’s license or a utility bill. It takes a few minutes, your first card is free, and a lost card costs $1.00 to replace. Children can get their own card once they can print their first and last name, with a parent or guardian signing the application.

If you prefer to start online, the NOBLE eCard service lets patrons register for a digital card valid for three years. Those eCardholders can later upgrade to a physical Lynn card by visiting the library with ID.

The Lynn Public Library participates in the NOBLE shared catalog, so a Lynn card lets you view accounts, place holds and borrow items across the NOBLE system.

Museum passes and borrowing rules

The library runs a Museum Pass Program offering low-cost passes for area museums.

Circulation policies list loan periods (books and audiobooks generally three weeks; movies and music one week), renewal limits, and a no-late-fines policy on Lynn-owned items. Items borrowed from other libraries may still incur fines.

Children’s and teen programs

Children’s and teen programs are scheduled on the library event calendar and include recurring story times, Makerspace sessions, family game nights and one-off events. Check the calendar for current dates and registration details.

The Teen Tech Space is a teen-only room for grades 6–12 on the main floor. It contains Macs, a 3D printer, Makey Makeys, iPads and other equipment. Use of the Teen Tech Space requires a school ID and a library card.

ESL, citizenship study resources and local referrals

For independent study, the library provides LearningExpress Library access for practice tests and tutorials, including U.S. citizenship and TOEFL preparation; access requires a Lynn library card.

Computers, printing, Wi‑Fi and hotspots

Public computers and Internet access are available; computer use requires a valid Lynn or other NOBLE library card (guest passes are available). Sessions are generally limited to one hour per day, and patrons must use headphones for sound.

The library lends mobile Wi‑Fi hotspots to Lynn residents age 18 and older with a valid library card. Hotspots circulate for two weeks and must be returned to the Reference Department.

E-books, streaming and digital access

E-books and audiobooks circulate through NOBLE’s OverDrive/Libby system; patrons use their library card to borrow digital titles and can follow the library’s Libby/OverDrive instructions.

The library added Kanopy streaming for adult patrons (age 18+) who hold a Lynn Public Library card. Each patron receives 25 Kanopy tickets per month. NOBLE digital-resource notes remind users that the NOBLE password must match the library account password for Libby and Kanopy access.

Spaces, accessibility and meeting rooms

The building provides ramps and chair lifts to give accessible routes to program and reading spaces.

The Smith Room is used for programs; the library posts room-use and accessibility information on its site.

Branches, bookmobile and what the site does not list

The Lynn Public Library site and NOBLE pages do not list separate branch locations or a bookmobile.

Before you go

Bring ID that shows your current address if you want a physical card; the first card is free and replacement cards cost $1. For an immediate digital start, register for a NOBLE eCard online and upgrade to a physical card later with ID.

Main library hours are Monday–Thursday 9:00 AM–9:00 PM and Friday–Saturday 9:00 AM–5:00 PM; the Children’s Department has extended weekday evenings on Tuesday and Thursday. For questions or to confirm program details, call 781-595-0567 before you travel to 5 North Common St.
