Lynn assessors are knocking on doors: how to tell an inspector is legit
The Board of Assessors began a citywide re-inspection on Sept. 29. Inspectors carry city ID, and interior visits are voluntary.
Lynn’s Board of Assessors began a citywide property re-inspection program on Sept. 29, and inspectors are visiting homes and businesses that the Assessing Department has not seen in the last 10 years, the city says.
Inspectors check exterior details such as a building’s size and features. They may also ask permission for a brief interior look, which the city says typically takes about 10 minutes. Interior inspections are voluntary.
Every inspector carries official City of Lynn identification. If no one is home, inspectors may leave a notice with contact information. If you want to confirm someone at your door is legitimate, call the Assessing Department at 781-586-6702.
The city says the program is required by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue and state law, and that it “is not intended to increase taxes but to maintain current and accurate records.”
